Another Successful Edition of the Annual Born to Run Fundraiser!

Already two years have gone by since the passing of our beloved friend and colleague, Dave Jones. On May 12th, 2016 the second edition of the Annual Born to Run fundraiser, benefitting the David H. Jones Memorial Scholarship in Athletic Therapy, was held at Concordia University. We wish to thank everyone who contributed to making this event a success! Your presence and/or your donation, allowed us to raise over $4,500 towards the scholarship fund!

We also wish to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful sponsors of the 2016 Born to Run event: Concordia University, Concordia Stingers, Hospitality Concordia Food Services, The Body Mechanics, Department of Exercise Science, ESSA, CTSQ, Trainers Choice, Synergy Sports Therapy, CoreXcellence Clinic, Sattva Yoga and the Montreal Canadiens.

In addition to the inaugural run/walk, soccer, ultimate, yoga and the kid’s corner added variety to the event; we can confidently say that all of the participants thoroughly enjoyed the multitude of activities as well as the plentiful food!

The event could not exist without the generosity and contagious energy of our numerous volunteers. Your dedication and attention to detail contributed to making this day a memorable one for all, and for that we thank all of you!

Finally, we make a commitment to continue to reunite every year, around this time, to ensure that Dave’s memory and the legacy that he has left for us live on for many generations of Athletic Therapists. We hope to see you in 2017!

Du nouveau pour les thérapeutes du sport agréés

CATA recently accredited a new first-aid training program offered by the Groupe Montagne Explore Inc. Therapists who complete this training session will receive their updated first-responder certification from CATA. The first session will take place in Montreal from August 12 to 15.

The First-Responder in Sports certificate is a training session designed for emergency medical responders who work in the field of sports. Once their training is complete, sports responders will have all the knowledge and skills required to work on sporting organization’s first-aid team and at popular events.

Training is focused on interventions in the field of sports and will contribute to the development of various skills, including the clinical assessment of wounds, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, evaluating concussions, and applying a variety of bandages on trauma victims using specialized equipment out on the playing surface. Trainers will also pay close attention to ensuring that the various techniques covered are put into practice. They will help participants develop the dexterity required to maneuver patients, and a variety of equipment, in the correct manner. Techniques such as helmets removal, and victims immobilization and transportation will all be tested to ensure that participants have assimilated the material.

Respondents will also be able to design both an emergency and intervention plan as part of their training, to develop effective communications’ strategies and to fill out the medical documents that are often required. Training will be offered in an open-minded atmosphere, in which learning through authentic, realistic and often complex situations will remain the emphasis.
