The Ethics Committee has now a new Chair. Leeann Papula, past member of the said committee, is now president. We would like to remind you that you have until October 18 to send your candidature for a seat on the committee.

CATA finished its work on their new competence scheme for certified athletic therapy. Take a moment to read their conclusion when they will be releasing it.

CTSQ’s Concussion Committee worked hard in the past year to provide us with up-to-date guidelines. They will be published soon. Remember that these guidelines are a standard to be followed by all Quebec AT. Update your practice by reading it!

I hope your summer went well and was filed with professional opportunities. As I am still doing my first steps as CTSQ president, I am nonetheless excited to tackle the great challenges ahead.

President's Corner: Back to Work

Dear Member,

I hope your summer went well and was filed with professional opportunities. As I am still doing my first steps as CTSQ president, I am nonetheless excited to tackle the great challenges ahead. At the top of my list is the advancement of a professional Order. The board of administrators, as well as myself, are putting all our energy toward this goal, and we will keep you posted on the evolution.

During the last AGM, I mentioned my strong will to rebuild the sense of belonging within our community and work on gathering activities. Thanks to the devotion of our administrators, we held our first event on September 21 during Stingers Football Homecoming Game. Members present that day were able to talk together in a festive mood. Now, save the date; the next event is on November 1st, 2019. A 5@7 will be held at PERFORM (Concordia University) followed by a Stingers’ hockey game against the UQTR’s Patriotes. Come cheer for one of the teams while connecting with certified members and candidates. The following activity will be on February 21, 2020. There will be two networking event held simultaneously at Concordia and UQTR. We will be closing the year the annual banquet, now bigger than ever. I hope to see you all there on April 25, 2020.

Moreover, I must mention my enthusiasm toward the constant increase of our membership in the last few years. These new fresh highly motivated professional members will benefit from the hard work from their predecessors as they themselves did. I will allow myself to remind everyone that you still have time to send your suggestion for the 2020 Hall of Fame in order to honour those who deserve it. The enthusiasm, devotion and passion surrounding me lately are truly inspiring and make me believe in a grand future for our profession.

Although tremendous grounds have been broken in the previous years, there are still great work ahead of us to educate people on our profession, our skill set and competencies. I vividly encourage anyone to seize every opportunity to resolve the issue. We must work as a team, but by accomplishing individual milestones, we will earn common success.

Last, but not least, let me remind everyone that major changes have happened on the national stage, like the abolition of the reciprocity agreement with NATA. Make sure, though, that CTSQ’s board is working for you to represent your best interest with CATA, and do not hesitate to contact us to comment or share your questions on those hot topics.

On this note, I wish all a great Fall and I hope that everyone will have a chance to join us on the coming events.

Take your time to choose your drugstore

This advice is very important, especially if the drugs are consumed on a recurring basis (e.g. once a month). The price of drugs can vary a lot between different drugstores. Those prices differential can reach up to 60% within the same banner.

It would also be useful to consider using the Picard and Desjardins postal pharmacy to save on the cost of your medication. You can easily obtain an online quote on their website and see the potential savings: www.picarddesjardins.com. According to an analysis done with this postal pharmacy, it would be easy to save about 15% of the total cost of drugs using their services.

Ask your pharmacist or doctor if a generic medicine is available

A generic medicine is a drug that equals the original drug at a lower cost, up to 60%. Check out this link to learn more about the type of drugs.

Only buy the medicines you intend to use

Sometimes a doctor prescribes medications to take as needed. Only buy them if you intend to take them and ask for them in reduced quantities.

Save money by getting your medicine for 3 months instead of 1 month at a time

A sufficient amount of medication for a period of up to 100 days may be covered by the insurer in the case of a long-term treatment, if the doctor and the pharmacist judge that it is advisable to prescribe a larger quantity of drugs.

By following this tips, we will collectively work toward a stabilisation of the premium rate for next year renewal.
