Invalid Provisional Certification in Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong><\/p>\n

We would like to remind everyone of the content of the message sent on June 11<\/a>. Following consultation with the Coll\u00e8ge des m\u00e9decins du Qu\u00e9bec (CMQ), the provisional certification granted by CATA to certain individuals is not a valid title in Qu\u00e9bec under the Regulation respecting certain professional activities that may be engaged in by an athletic therapist<\/a>. This applies to everyone, whether or not they are members of the CTSQ.<\/p>\n

Contravening the authorization regulations is considered as practising medicine illegally and is therefore liable to sanction. The CATA has been made aware of the situation and has even contacted the CMQ, but we are still awaiting a reaction from them.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The CTSQ Contributes to Research with Concordia University’s School of Health<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, the Corporation sponsored the poster competition for the School of Health’s annual conference, which was held on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The event was a great success, with close to 90 student posters submitted.<\/p>\n

Our sponsorship was used to present an award to Owen Soontjens for his presentation entitled \u2018From Takeoff to Touchdown: Achilles Tendon Stiffness and Its Links to Leg Preference, Athletic Performance, Range of Motion, and Injury in University Basketball.\u2019.<\/p>\n

Change of Status for Students<\/strong><\/p>\n

For all students who wrote the CATA exam in May, we remind you that your request for your status change must be done by August 16th. All information was sent out by e-mail on June 27.<\/p>\n

We would also like to remind all student members that you cannot keep your \u2018student\u2019 membership after graduation, so make sure you make your change in time.<\/p>\n<\/div>

International Congress on Safe Sport Research<\/strong><\/p>\n

On June 19, Laurie-Ann Corbin-Berrigan represented the CTSQ at the 1st International Congress on Safe Sport Research<\/a>. In teams with participants from various organizations (universities, sports associations, research centres), they worked on issues related to safe sport in Qu\u00e9bec. The results of their work will be written up in the form of a report and sent to the ministerial bodies concerned.<\/p>\n<\/div>

President\u2019s Corner: Keeping Moving Forward<\/h2>\n

To Our Members,<\/em><\/p>\n

Over the past months, we have continued our work with the Office des professions du Qu\u00e9bec<\/em> (OPQ). We are still waiting for the publishing of their official statement following the 2022 consultation, but we were told it is imminent. In the meantime, the frequency and quality of our recent meetings confirm that our file remains active and is steadily moving forward, which pleases us.<\/p>\n

As part of the modernization project, the OPQ, in collaboration with the MSSS, was tasked with the creation of an expert committee to analyze professional practice of musculoskeletal diagnosis. Although we do not have an official seat on the committee, the OPQ was willing to keep us in the loop of the committee\u2019s work so we could provide them with data on our field of work. The CTSQ welcomes this important initiative and is pleased to see that the drafting of the document remains open to including our profession once formal recognition through a professional order in Quebec is achieved.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, we held a few meetings in the past months with professional orders regarding the modernization plan and also provincial athletic therapy associations (ATABC and SATA) to stay up-to-date with their situation.<\/p>\n

We sincerely thank all our members for their ongoing support, trust, and commitment to the advancement of our profession. In the coming months, we will continue to advocate for the full recognition of our competencies, and we look forward to keeping you informed of any progress as it unfolds.<\/p>\n
