{"id":26707,"date":"2026-09-29T21:19:31","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T01:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ctsq.qc.ca\/?page_id=26707"},"modified":"2026-09-29T21:19:31","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T01:19:31","slug":"knowledge-of-the-french-language","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ctsq.qc.ca\/en\/knowledge-of-the-french-language\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowledge of the French language"},"content":{"rendered":"[vc_row css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1790121707894{background-color: #ffffff !important;}&#8221;][vc_column][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1790125203452{background-color: #ffffff !important;}&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n<h4 style=\"color: #009fdf;\">In the event that athletic therapists are integrated into Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s professional system, the CTSQ wishes to prepare its members for the possibility that they may may have to take a test of their French language skills.<\/h4>\n<p>Under the law, every professional practicing in Qu\u00e9bec must have an appropriate knowledge of French to practise their profession, meaning that they must be able to speak, write, and work in French.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/fr\/document\/lc\/c-11?langCont=en\">Charter of the French Language<\/a>, your professional order considers that you have sufficient knowledge of French if you meet <strong>one of the following conditions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>\u2192 you completed at least three years of full-time high school or post high school education in French<\/li>\n<li>\u2192 you passed French as a first language examinations for either year IV or V\u00a0 of high school in Qu\u00e9bec<\/li>\n<li>\u2192 you obtained a Qu\u00e9bec High School Diploma (DES) in 1985\u20131986 or thereafter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In all other cases, you must <strong>obtain a certificate of knowledge of French.<\/strong>\u00a0The Office qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la langue fran\u00e7aise is responsible for issuing this attestation to individuals who have successfully passed the French language examination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/fr\/document\/lc\/c-11?langCont=en\">Charter of the French Language<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>\u203a you must maintain an appropriate knowledge of French to practice your profession<\/li>\n<li>\u203a if, for serious reasons, it is determined that you have not maintained an appropriate knowledge of French to practice your profession, measures may be recommended to help you maintain or regain the required level of French, including taking a refresher course<\/li>\n<li>\u203a if, despite the recommended measures, there are serious reasons to believe that you still do not have sufficient knowledge of French, you may be required to pass the French language examination administered by the Office qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la langue fran\u00e7aise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"c202080\" class=\" frame frame-default frame-type-textmedia frame-layout-0\">\n<div class=\"ce-textpic ce-left ce-above\">\n<div id=\"c202080\" class=\" frame frame-default frame-type-textmedia frame-layout-0\">\n<h4 style=\"color: #009fdf; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Description of the exam<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"c202082\" class=\" frame frame-default frame-type-textmedia frame-layout-0\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"ce-textpic ce-left ce-above\">\n<div class=\"ce-bodytext\">\n<p>To obtain a certificate of knowledge of French, you must pass the exam of the Office qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la langue fran\u00e7aise. No other exam is accepted.<\/p>\n<p>The French exam of the Office:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2713 is free<\/li>\n<li>\u2713 lasts about three hours<\/li>\n<li>\u2713 assesses your oral and written skills in French<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The exam takes place at the Office\u2019s Montr\u00e9al offices. The exam is also offered twice a year at the offices of the Office qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la langue fran\u00e7aise in Qu\u00e9bec City. No exam is offered remotely.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"c202080\" class=\" frame frame-default frame-type-textmedia frame-layout-0\">\n<h4 style=\"color: #009fdf; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Exam process<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"ce-textpic ce-left ce-above\">\n<div class=\"ce-bodytext\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exam consists of 4\u00a0parts. You must pass all the parts in the same session to obtain the certificate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exam takes the form of a case study linked to a professional situation.
