President’s Corner : Professionalism

Dear Member,

As athletic therapists we all pride ourselves at working hard and putting others first in order to help them achieve the most out of their bodies and excel in their daily activities and sports. Athletic therapists have long been known to be dedicated, perseverant, creative, constantly evolving and much more. These are the reasons our profession is growing and expanding. These reasons also bring the CTSQ to keep working hard for its members and ensure that its members get the recognition it deserves. We also want to ensure that this well earned, yet still budding, place we have established does not come to a halt due to overstepping or professional mistakes

We are making constant efforts to make our presence felt in the health and sports sectors and we encourage our members to do the same. However, it is important for members to understand that athletic therapists’ best asset in their journey toward recognition is the fact that we have always been very respectful of the procedure and the system in place. A misguided step could be costly to our cause, and athletic therapists need to be aware that the self-governing is a privilege that can be revoked, thus the importance to go by the rules when it comes to our authorization regulation, scope of practice and work ethics. Hence why the CTSQ is always happy to lend a hand to members seeking answers or guidance. For instance, members who are active on web platforms can ask us to review the message you wish to relay (i.e., job offers).

The CTSQ is also following the new changes announced by our government and health ministry on the topics of modernizing the professional system in Quebec. These announcements are important for our profession, and we are doing all that is in our power to be part of the discussions so that any changes moving forward can be beneficial for athletic therapists in Quebec. As always, we will inform you all with any updates as they come.
